Bedrock Groundwater
The remedy includes further delineation of both 1, 4-dioxane and uranium in bedrock groundwater. Due to the nature of bedrock at the site (fractured gneiss), it is difficult to identify preferential pathways compared to in overburden and thus extraction of overburden groundwater is likely to have minimal affect on bedrock groundwater.
As part of the remedial efforts, detailed pre-design investigations will be completed in order to collect rock cores and identify fracture characteristics in bedrock along the center of the 1,4-dioxane and uranium plumes. Through these efforts, optimal locations for additional low-yield bedrock wells will be selected.
